Anakeesta in Gatlinburg: A Mountaintop Adventure for All Ages

If you’re looking for a fun, scenic outing during your Smoky Mountains vacation, Anakeesta is one of Gatlinburg’s most popular attractions -  and for good reason.
This mountaintop adventure park rises 600 feet above downtown Gatlinburg and blends panoramic Smoky Mountain views with treetop walks, gardens, play areas, and family-friendly thrills.
It’s an easy half-day or full-day outing from your Blue Mountain Cabins stay.

Distance from Blue Mountain Cabins

  • From Ridge View Lodge -  Approx. 9 miles,  Drive time: ~20–25 minutes (depending on Parkway traffic)
  • From Appalachian Escape - Approx. 8–9 miles,  Drive time: ~20–25 minutes (depending on Parkway traffic)

Traffic through Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg can affect timing, especially on weekends and during peak seasons.

Anakeesta is located directly on the Gatlinburg Parkway at traffic light #5.

Getting to the Top: 2026 Update

Access to the summit is part of the experience.
Currently, guests ride the Ridge Rambler trucks to the top while construction continues. A brand-new Crystal Express high-speed gondola with panoramic glass cabins is scheduled to open in 2026.
During Spring 2026 construction, some areas and attractions may be temporarily closed or modified.

Scenic Highlights Everyone Can Enjoy

One of the best things about Anakeesta is that many experiences are gentle and accessible.

AnaVista Observation Tower

The highest point in downtown Gatlinburg, with 360° Smoky Mountain views from the summit platform.

Treetop Skywalk

The longest tree-based skywalk in North America, with hanging bridges suspended 50–60 feet above the forest floor.

Vista Gardens

A landscaped mountaintop garden filled with walking paths, art, and scenic seating areas.

Family-Friendly Fun Areas

Anakeesta is especially popular with families thanks to imaginative play zones:
  • Treehouse Adventure Village
  • TreeVenture Challenge Course
  • BirdVenture slides & climbing areas (new)
These interactive areas are included with admission and designed for kids and adults to explore together.

Thrill Rides & Add-On Adventures

For guests wanting more excitement, Anakeesta offers several paid add-ons:
  • Rail Runner mountain coaster
  • Hellbender mountain coaster
  • Astra Lumina night walk
  • Gem mining
The Rail Runner is the first single-rail mountain coaster in the U.S., reaching speeds up to 25 mph through the forest.
⚠️ Note: The Dueling Zipline is currently closed during expansion construction.

Astra Lumina: Anakeesta After Dark

In the evening, the mountaintop transforms into a glowing forest light experience called Astra Lumina — an immersive nighttime walk with projections, lighting, and music.
This optional ticketed experience begins after sunset and is especially popular with couples and older kids.

Dining with a View

Anakeesta includes several mountaintop dining options and snack spots (availability may vary during construction phases).
Expect casual Smoky Mountain fare, quick bites, and scenic overlooks - making it easy to spend several hours on the mountain.
